Those days are gone when online games were considered a mere hobby or a pass of time.

In recent years, the passion for online gaming has risen so much that people with brains will not laugh it off if someone aspires to become a professional gamer.

It is not just a recreational activity since a qualified gamer gets paid well, working under well-known professional e-sport sponsored companies.

However, the struggle behind the starlight is worth mentioning, and without proper equipment, it is hard to get a grip on this field.

If you are an amateur gamer and want to be a professional, you need a good gaming headset for a better gameplay experience.

Blocking the surrounding noises, limiting the disturbance, tracking down the enemies, and reacting to them with more potential— are some of the few necessities for a gamer.

Moreover, a good pair of gaming headphones with a built-in mic will let you interact with your teammates, minimizing communication loss, which is essential for multiplayer games.

What Points to Look for While Choosing a Gaming Headset?

Build Quality: We should never ignore the product’s durability and immutability when choosing any electronic device. The headset should be well-built enough to sustain harsh conditions for a prolonged period.

Sound Quality: The headset must fulfill the basic requirements, including good music performance, video audio experience, and smooth calling.

Comfort: For a gamer, being comfortable while playing is very important as it affects gaming’s overall performance. A good headset should make you feel relaxed without providing any itchiness, or ear pain, even when used for a considerable period.

Noise Cancelling: This is one feature everyone looks for in good headphones nowadays. With a surrounding full of noises and car honks, it is vital to look for something that provides active noise canceling feature to focus entirely on whatever we are doing.

Battery Life: When buying wireless headphones, it is essential to notice their battery life, which indicates the amount of time we can use the device after charging it completely. As for the wired headphones, there is no need to charge them at all.

These headphones came with a USB dongle to connect the device wirelessly to compatible platforms, along with a 3.5mm cord to establish a connection with phones, Xbox One, and undocked Nintendo Switch through the controller, and finally, a USB charging cord.

It comes in two color variants, black and white, with the white one being on the expensive little side.

The strap provided with it is comfortable and elastic, which applies the optimum amount of pressure needed to secure the head.

The SteelSeries Arctis 7 headphones come with airweave pads that give the rigidity of something between leather and velour.

Unlike leather, they don’t get very hot and have a perfect size to sit around the ears comfortably. However, they are not as good as velour with glasses, so it will not be foolish to replace them if you are a bespectacled gamer.

Overall, these headphones will keep you cool and comfortable.

However, the headphones aren’t that secure when you try to use them while roaming around a place, as relatively gentle movements may also loosen the grip.

Therefore it is advisable to use them while seated, although you don’t need to be very close to the device you are gaming on.

This model’s design is similar to the SteelSeries Arctis Pro, built with a sturdy aluminum frame and a ski-goggle-like adjustable suspension band. If you are confused between Arctis 7 and Arctis 7 Pro, the latter is a clear winner, providing a better battery life and microphone quality.

Coming back to the topic, the headphones have been built on offset hinges with matte-textured panels.

The headset’s buttons for controlling different activities lie at the headphones’ bottom.

While on the left side, we can find a volume dial, mute mic button, and four-pin ports, the right headphone has the power button, along with a dial that lets us switch between the chat audio channels supported by the headset and the game.

The left side also has a retractable microphone extending on a flexible wire.

The SteelSeries Arctis 7 uses a 2.4GHz wireless RF USB dongle to establish a connection rather than Bluetooth. Although the headset is slightly less versatile, you still don’t have to spend a lot of time pairing, and it has no noticeable latency.

Coming to the limitations, the headphones aren’t well-suited enough for being used as gaming headphones.

As mentioned earlier, they are terrible when used on mobile. Moreover, it does not come with any LED striping or neon highlights, but it does include a light illuminating while the mic is turned off.

Battery Life

When the headphones were launched, they were said to provide fifteen hours of battery life.

However, a new firmware update was released soon, claiming that it could offer a battery life of 24 hours, allowing the users to go on with even the most prolonged gaming sessions without charging it often.

Although the update improved the headphones to a considerable amount, practically speaking, it is a kind of stretch about the hours of battery mentioned by the company, as the maximum hours till which the charging last is only up to 17 hours, when tested at a higher volume, and a little more than that if used at a lower volume.

Connectivity

The SteelSeries comes in both wired as well as wireless connectivity options.

For making a wired connection with undocked Nintendo Switch or the Xbox One, a 3.5mm cord is provided to use, but it pulls down the software’s overall features, and we lose out on multiple audio channels.

As for the wireless connection, the headset uses a USB dongle, which is compatible with PC, Switch and Mobile, Mac, docked Nintendo Switch, and Playstation 4.

The range of diameter within which the Arctis 7 model can be used is 40 feet or 12 meters. The connectivity is quite robust and does not lag.

Sound Quality

The SteelSeries Arctis 7 headset provides an entirely satisfactory audio output, with clear and distinct frequencies most of the time, except for the mids, around 1,500Hz, where a slight de-emphasis has been observed.

If we talk about music, it sounds pretty impressive on the SteelSeries Arctis 7 headphones. Still, cymbals and strings’ sound experiences seem indistinguishable when accompanied by extra noise in the background or bass.

This limitation does not come into the picture for most audio tracks; however, with tracks with distinct guitar lines making a considerable part of it, the whole listening experience can get foiled. Had better emphasis been put on the mid and high frequencies, the problem could have been solved easily.

Arctic 7 is one of the best headphones for providing a standard noise isolation feature among most gaming headsets. Although they do not work as good as headphones with active noise canceling feature, it is effective for blocking the noise of surrounding people and occasional traffic noise.

Unlike most gaming headsets, these headphones work well using the 3.5mm cord. If blocking away all the rumbles and the beeps of city life is not your concern, then the headset will not be the wrong choice for outdoor settings.

According to what is mentioned on the box, the headphones come with a Discord-certified mic, which meets standard gaming headset requirements. The headset features a special icon in the Discord app that pops up next to the input-output options, indicating that it performs some voice-processing work.

However, it is still unknown whether the feature has been given to improve calls’ audio quality. Still, the mic’s overall performance is undoubtedly no better than the non-certified ones. It can catch the audio range of most of the voices, especially the high-frequency ones, but tend to de-emphasize the bass frequencies, resulting in thinning the lower voices.

Gaming Experience

The device comes with 7.1 digital surround sound using DTS Headphone:X 2.0 tech, which provides realistic 3D audio environments during games like Fortnite and Overwatch.

The bass is pretty good unless we compare it with other gaming headsets at the same price.

This signifies that although the sound of a big explosion in the game will be very prominent to the ears, the subtle sounds, including the footsteps and various environmental noises, will not be uncommonly projected.

The Logitech G Pro X headset comes with two detachable 3.5mm cords, a small USB DAC attachment to be used with a PC, different inline controls for establishing a connection with a PC or mobile, along a 3.5mm splitter to be used for desktop analog inputs.

We also get a cushioned carry bag, a detachable boom mic, and velour replacement earpads inside the box.

References For Nerds:

It has a metal frame with thick cushions on the headphones and the headband.

This sturdily-built headset is pretty comfortable to use while playing any game.

As observed in most headsets, the fitting is quite tight since the headphones do not provide any room for adjustments.

However, the Logitech G Pro X clamps down to an accurate extent, which does not let it move randomly without applying excess pressure.

The hinges that connect the two headphones allow the users to adjust them according to their comfort.

The pads provided on the headphones are thick and cozy, ensuring a secure seal.

The extra pads are made from velour for the convenience of games-wearing glasses.

Although velour pads are on a little worse side when it comes to noise isolation, it is still a good deal considering the wireless headphones’ overall design.

The controls are surprisingly very straightforward, with all the cords and attachments.

Inline controls vary slightly according to the cords, with the braided cord, designed to be used with a PC, featuring a mic mute and a volume dial switch.

A plastic cord is given to connect with the smartphones, featuring a single clickable button for playing or pausing audio tracks.

The operations like mic settings surround sound, and other options can be handled in the G Hub app, owned by Logitech, making the overall work more accessible.

Battery Life

The Logitech G Pro X headset has a battery life of 20 hours, as claimed by the company, and we observed no lie when we tested it on our own.

The headphones can last up to 22 hours at a stable output of 75dB on an approximation.

It uses a USB-C charging cable and takes only a couple of hours to get charged completely. There is no option for fast charging available.

Connectivity

The headset was initially launched using wired technology, so they are not compatible with Bluetooth.

This ensures no latency issues, so playing games or watching videos is not dependent upon any time.

However, a wireless variant was launched, which is much more expensive.

The G Pro X headphones have been designed to work on PCs with Windows 7 or above.

The device’s advanced features can be unlocked using the Logitech G Hub software.

Moreover, the software also offers to add several custom EQ settings and select a 10-band equalizer supported by multiple presets.

It is docked and compatible with platforms like PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch.

Sound Quality

The device works pretty well for a gaming headset and provides accurate sound, although a few bugbears are usually common to the product category.

The headphones are good enough to work well with sound ranging up to 3kHz, though we can witness a little de-emphasis in the bass.

After this, we also experience a relative dip in sound, deflecting a few natural resonances inside the ear.

However, that should not be a big deal since it’s very typical in headsets, plus the accuracy is better in high ranges.

In human words, while listening to the music, the sounds of cymbals and some strings aren’t very prominent, but other than that, most of the vocals and bass tones sound great.

So with songs having a solid bass line, the headphones are good to go, but with songs where cymbals and guitars play an essential role, it will surely disappoint you.

While playing games, the headphones will give a very satisfactory experience.

Raising the bass into a low orbit which most of the gaming headsets out in the market do, has not been used by the Logitech G Pro X.

The sound of explosion in the game will be among the loudest sounds like other headsets, but even the different sounds should appear as prominent as they need to.

The headphones also provide a standard noise isolation feature, though they are nowhere around compared to the active noise cancellation feature.

This signifies that the device is good enough to block people’s low humming talking or the moving fan’s sound in the other room.

Still, if you expect it to block the sound from the TV right in front of you, then Logitech G Pro X is unsuitable.

Moreover, these earphones are not made for use in an outdoor setting, even when the wireless version is used, but that should be okay if your sole purpose is to have a gaming headset.

Although the microphone offered by the device features the real-time Blue Voice technology that promises to reduce the background noise and to act as a compressor and a limiter for a pro gaming experience, the Logitech G Pro X headset still provides a below-average output when compared to most of the gaming microphones in the market, de-emphasizing a little in the mid-range, a lot in the bass range.

In contrast, a little over-emphasizing has been observed in the high ranges.

When the headphones’ basic settings are in use, the deep-voiced people sound distorted and slightly softer than that high-pitched voices.

This over-emphasis on the higher frequencies leads to a magnified effect in sibilant sounds, which is necessary for a natural speech during the calls.

Gaming Experience

With the wired connection options, the device can have several benefits when connected to the PC, where the G Hub app can be used.

It supports the surround sound option based on next-generation 7.1, providing better awareness of objects, position, and distance during the gameplay.

However, surround sound is not supported on other platforms like gaming consoles, while the headphones work fine when connected to a Nintendo Switch, Playstation 4, and Xbox One.

It should be noted that surround sound cannot be considered a feature that automatically gives a better gaming experience.

Instead, it can make a lot of difference when the added information is appropriately used. The players can hear the enemies’ environmental cues and footsteps ahead, which is advantageous during the gaming sessions.

In general, the headphones give an overall satisfactory experience allowing the gamers to use them non-stop for an extended time.

The device handles the different sound profiles well, so games like Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Dauntless can also be played without trouble.

Which is a better deal for a gaming headset— SteelSeries Arctis 7 or Logitech G Pro X?

Better Deal

The complete comparison and review of the two gaming headphones are over; both are available in wired and wireless variants.

Earlier, SteelSeries Arctis 7 would have been a clear winner here since it had the advantage of being seamless wireless.

The competition can be tricky because Logitech G Pro X has a variant of wireless headsets.

The SteelSeries Arctis 7 is very lightweight and does a decent job of providing a comfortable fit and sound experience at a reasonable price.

However, its battery life is much more imperfect than the Logitech G Pro X at the same volume.

Logitech G Pro X also gives an incredible listening experience and has many advanced features.

Therefore, both headsets are good enough for a standard level of gamers who aspire to be professionals, having their pros and cons.

You can go for either of these and won’t regret the purchase. Depending on the amount of money you are willing to pay, you can choose your favorite.
